Once landed at Muscat International Airport, you will be transferred to the hotel. Time at leisure for extra activities. Overnight at the hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel. Meet your driver. Full day to discover the capital of the Sultanate. The tour begins at Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque: it has been inaugurated in 2001 to celebrate thirty years of the Sultan's reign and it can host over 20,000 worshippers. The building is a true masterpiece of modern architecture, harmoniously combining various artistic currents of the Islamic world, from Maghreb to Central Asia. Later continue to the historic area of Mutrah and stroll through the alleys of the Souq and along the Corniche, admiring the Portuguese colonial houses. Lunch. In the afternoon visit the National Museum of Oman: the museum has opened to the public in 2016 and houses 12,500 artifacts telling the historical, archaeological, and cultural background of the country. Then photo stop at the Sultan's Palace (Al Alam Palace) and the Portuguese Forts of Jalali and Mirani. Overnight at the hotel.
Muscat – Nakhal – Wadi Bani Awf – Birkat Al Mawz – Nizwa
Breakfast at the hotel. Start driving north towards Batinah region. Visit of Nakhal Fort, which for centuries has been standing majestically on a rock spur, guardian of the access to the mountains. Afterward crossing Western Hajar Mountains along the off-road track of Wadi Bani Awf, one of the most inaccessible and evocative canyons in the country. Lunch. In the afternoon reach Birkat Al Mawz, a picturesque village known for its lush palm grove and Falaj Al Khatmeen, a 17th century irrigation canal declared Unesco World Heritage Site. Arrive in Nizwa. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Nizwa – Wahiba Sands
Breakfast at the hotel. Early morning live the authentic Omani atmosphere in Nizwa, capital during the Yaroubi dynasty and still an important cultural and religious center, known as the Pearl of Islam. Visit the Souq, which comes alive every Friday thanks to the traditional animal market, and the Fort, with its massive watchtower offering beautiful views on the Friday Mosque and on the date plantations surrounding the town. Lunch. In the afternoon, leave the paved road behind and enter the dunes of Wahiba Sands, the second largest desert in Oman, with an area of over 12,000 square kilometers. Sunset on the dunes. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Wahiba Sands – Wadi Bani Khalid – Wahiba Sands
Breakfast at the lodge. Drive to Wadi Bani Khalid, a spectacular oasis of palm trees and natural pools nestled among the colorful rock formations of the Eastern Hajar Mountains. Free time to swim and relax. Lunch. In the afternoon, return to the desert dunes and enjoy a camel ride at sunset. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Wahiba Sands – Ras Ar Ruways – Film – Khaluf
Breakfast at the lodge and start crossing Wahiba Sands: an authentic and exciting experience in the desert until the coast, through ever-changing landscapes in a succession of dunes, acacias, and Bedouin tents. Arrival at Ras Ar Ruways cliffs, where layers of sandstone rocks meet the blue of the ocean, creating a unique and fascinating landscape. Lunch. In the afternoon continue to the fishing village of Film, dotted with traditional barasti huts built with palm leaves, and arrival at the Sugar Dunes in Khaluf, where white dunes are lapped by the sea. Set the camp. Dinner and overnight.
Khaluf – Ras Markaz – Duqm
Breakfast. Full day dedicated to the remote Omani beaches. In the morning, free time to walk among the shining white dunes and to swim in Khaluf bay. Then continue south along the coast to the scenic Ras Markaz beach, frequented only by local fishermen. Lunch. In the afternoon departure towards Duqm and sunset among the curious Rock Garden formations, a real paradise for geology enthusiasts. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Duqm – Jiddat Al Harasis – Hayma – Rub Al Khali
Breakfast at the hotel and departure west crossing Jiddat Al Harasis, a dry and gravel plain, populated by gazelles and the rare Arabian oryx. Stop in Hayma to refuel with petrol and food. Lunch. In the afternoon arrival at the foot of the first dunes of the majestic Rub Al Khali desert. Set the camp. Dinner and overnight.
Rub Al Khali
Breakfast. A day fully dedicated to Rub Al Khali and its over 300 meters high dunes. Rub Al Khali desert, also called Empty Quarter, is the largest stretch of sand in the world and it is still largely unexplored. It covers about 650,000 square kilometers and spread between Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates. Time to walk and drive among the dunes to experience the true atmosphere of the desert and its breathtaking scenery. Lunch. In the afternoon set the camp. Dinner and overnight.
Rub Al Khali
Breakfast. A day fully dedicated to Rub Al Khali and its over 300 meters high dunes. Lunch. In the afternoon set the camp. Dinner and overnight.
Rub Al Khali – Salalah
Breakfast. In the morning, last moments to enjoy the magical atmosphere of the desert, then departure south to the Dhofari coast. Lunch. In the afternoon, arrival in Salalah. Time to relax and to walk along the beach at sunset. Farewell dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at the hotel.
